Info - The Jazz Book - English

As the official New Orleans Music Ambassador, singer Lillian Boutté has spread the sounds of that famous city all over the U.S., Far East and Europe. Her ability to adapt to many different styles had her compared to such greats as Bessie Smith, Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday, 'Big Mama' Thornton, Aretha Franklin or Mahalia Jackson.
On four tracks of her new album "The Jazz Book" Lillian's band is joined by New-Orleans legend Dr. John (Mac Rebennack), an old friend of Lillian's who embodies a musical approach very close to her own. Bassist Lloyd Lambert and pianist Edward Frank have also known and worked with Dr. John for many years. Another featured player on "The Jazz Book" is young virtuoso Leroy Jones who has recently come to prominence as the lead trumpeter in the Harry Connick, Jr. Big Band.
The music on "The Jazz Book" is exactly what Lillian's first-rate ensemble plays live in concert halls, at festivals and jazz clubs throughout the world. The singer will suggest any song she and the audience likes - classic traditional jazz, ballads, top forty, blues or swing -, making it difficult to categorize the 'style' of music on this recording. Although the tunes are well-known jazz standards, the performance echoes a wide range of styles and sounds of New Orleans and vibrates of Southern groove and swinging nostalgia. New Orleans lives!
