Over the years, German blues pianist and singer Christian Willisohn has developed from an exuberant boogie woogie player into a full-grown artist who easily crosses the borders between blues, jazz, rock, and New Orleans R'n'B. On "Heart Broken Man," Willisohn and his phenomenal new sextet present a highly original conception of jazz/blues/rock crossover. Canadian bassist Rocky Knauer who worked with Chet Baker, Art Farmer, Mal Waldron, Freddie Hubbard, Art Blakey and Joe Henderson, brings a wealth of experience to the sextet's music. Drummer Rick Hollander hails from Detroit, shared the stage with such as Woody Shaw, Arnett Cobb, and Joe Pass, and has several albums out with his own quartet. Ludwig Seuss is one of Europe's most-requested organ players and has worked with Kevin Coyne and other blues and jazz musicians. Guitarist Titus Vollmer worked in the bands of Louisiana Red and Reese Wynans (ex-Stevie Ray Vaughan) and was awarded by German Art Directors Club for his work as composer and songwriter. Reed player Stephan Holstein has studied with living jazz legends Attila Zoller and Lee Konitz and is well-known for his Clarinet Jazz Trio. With an inspiring Christian Willisohn in the center, this versatile sextet shows an enthusiasm and trickiness that have already raised big attention in concert performances. On the disc, the band is assisted by trombone player Hermann Breuer (ex-Mal Waldron, ex-Barbara Dennerlein), Dutch Houdini Horns, and other special guests.
